Bicester Quicksticks Tournament a success!

The recent Bicester Area Schools Quicksticks Hockey Festival for children in Years 5 and 6, hosted by The Cooper School, resulted in success for the smallest school in the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership with Finmere pushing another small school, Fritwell, in to second place on goal difference following a series of fun and exciting group and second phase round robin matches.

This well established and highly successful event was organised by Chris Birch, Development Officer at Bicester Hockey Club, in conjunction with Cooper School.

More than one hundred and thirty children, representing Schools from across Bicester and the outlying villages, participated in the Festival. There were sixteen teams in the competition from Langford Village, Brookside, Longfields, Five Acres, Fritwell, Launton, Finmere, King's Meadow, Southwold, Bure Park and Chesterton Primary Schools. Young Leaders from The Cooper School and junior members from Bicester Hockey Club expertly umpired the matches. Bicester Hockey Club coaches and volunteers supported at the event and signposted the young players to further playing opportunities at their local club.

All children at the festival received certificates, with the winners and runners up being presented with medals provided by Bicester Hockey Club.

The highly successful partnership of Bicester Hockey Club and the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Schools in the Bicester Area, built up in recent years, has meant that hundreds of young people have been introduced to, and have had fun playing, hockey. Many have joined Bicester Hockey Club’s Junior Section and it is hoped that the children who have participated in this festival will have been similarly inspired.

Congratulations to Finmere and Fritwell Schools; both teams have qualified for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Final.
