Ladies 4s Match Reports

Bicester L4's 4-0 Sonning L5's (Trysports Three Counties League Division 6) - 21 March 2015

Bicester ladies 4's Won 4-0 against Sonning Ladies 5's in a fast paced attacking display. Bicester took the lead early in the 1st half with a fantastic individual goal scored by Dame of the Game Lilly Hamp. Bicester continued to press with out making another break through until half time. So at half time the girls changed things around a bit and straight from the restart made more attempts on goal. The 2nd goal was made by Tenisha Aparo-iboch bursting in to the D and slipping the ball to Hattie Webb to score her first goal for Bicester. Goal 3 was more good work from Tenisha linking with Victoria Harte who fed the ball across the D for Hattie to score her 2nd goal for Bicester. The last goal came after sustained pressure from Bicester down the left from Jessica Skellern who fed Lilly for her 2nd goal to tie up the game. A great team performance from the Ladies which rounds of a tough first season for Bicester Ladies newest Team.

Thame 3s 4 - 0 Bicester Ladies 4s  (Trysports Three Counties League Division 6) - 24 January 2015

The rustiness of not playing hockey since the end of November showed as Bicester fell to three early goals in the return fixture at Thame. However in the second half Bicester found their way and began to look more threatening. However it took a well worked move and a powerful shot to increase the lead for Thame. This change in conviction resulted in 8 players being nominated for man of the match

Buckingham Ladies 4s 9 vs 1 Bicester Ladies 4s  (Trysports Three Counties League Division 6) - 25 October, 2014

A very disappointing start to the day for Bicester after a heavy defeat to local rivals Buckingham. Bicester started the brighter side threatening the Buckingham goal and winning an early penalty corner which they failed to convert. Buckingham then settled and using a full court press put Bicester under severe pressure. Bicester conceded two goals in quick succession as the defence failed to clear two goal mouth scrambles. Three other goals followed as Bicester failed to get to the ball first and frequently cleared the ball back to the opposition. In the second half Bicester’s substitutes began to take effect as Buckingham tired and a number of scoring opportunities came Bicester’s way. Paige Jorda who had put in a good display of harring the Buckingham defence linking well with Lily Hammond and was finally rewarded with a well taken shot from the top of the D. Scarlett Riggs put in a dame of the game winning performance controlling the defence but this was not enough to prevent Bicester’s heaviest defeat as a team.

Bicester Ladies 4s 1 – 0 Thame Ladies 3s (Trysports Three Counties League Division 6) - 11 October, 2014

Bicester Ladies 4s secured their first league win after a close fought contest with local rivals Thame. The age and experience of both sides was similar so it was no surprise that in the early exchanges there was little to tell the two teams apart. Bicester had the first opportunity to score but Paige Jorda’s efforts were blocked by the Thame keeper ensuring no gap between near post and pad. Thame then got back into the game and during a 10 minute spell got off a few shots at goal but each was ably dealt with by keeper Rachael Levy. Bicester were then awarded a their second penalty corner and Emily Winks made no mistake rifling the ball into the left hand corner giving the keeper no chance.

In the second half Thame were the stronger side and had chances to draw level beating Levy once but Pauline Smith was for the second time in two weeks drawn upon to make a goal line clearance. Thame then got another great opportunity to draw level. Amy Jackson’s back stick tackle in the D resulted in a penalty stroke; which Levy unconventionally saved with her stick to protect her clean sheet. Captain Imogen “Bob” Yapp inspired her team to great efforts as Thame pressed for a goal and Bicester counter attacked; Emily Tucker and Kim Blunsdon controlled the centre of the park whilst Sam Scott put in a sterling defensive performance suppressing many a promising Thame attack in midfield.

This was a great game for the spectator, a close game and a credit to both squads. Next week the 4s face top of the table Oxford Hawks at Banbury Road North.

Bicester Ladies 4's 0-8 Slough Ladies 3's (Trysports Three Counties League Division 6) - 27 September, 2014

Playing your first ever league game against a promotional contender may not have been an ideal blooding in the league but despite the scoreline this new team showed great promise. It took 10 minutes for the team to settle and during this time Slough capitalised taking the lead from the first penalty corner of the game, Imogen “Bob” Yapp got a stick to the shot put only managed to tip it past the keeper. Two further goals followed without debutante keeper Rachael Levy touching the ball as both a clever tip and powerful shot deceived her. Then Bicester began to find their shape as they got used to the formation and senior hockey.

Harrie Webb and Kim Blunsdon linked up well in midfield and did not allow the visitors much time on the ball. They began to provide attacking opportunities for Jess Skellern and Paige Jorda but the Slough keeper protected her goal well. Slough notched up two more goals catching Bicester on the counter attack but Bicester came close to pulling a goal back when Sam Scott found herself unmarked on the post but failed to control the ball to get her shot away.

Bicester continued to improve in the second half as Slough tired in the heat; Levy found her rhythm and pulled off some great double saves. The back three of Imogen “Jim” Ward, Choe Mays and centre back Eloise Quigley began to gel as a unit limiting Slough to take shots from the top of the D which on all bar three occasions were handled. Ella Gunn showed great promise for the future and her danger as a flank player her linking up well with Jorda was clearly evident throughout the game. For the first game the level of commitment from the team was impressive and look forward to more promising results in the future.
